The news this summer that a new RPU water tower was put into service in southeast Rochester got me wondering about just how they actually work.

Normally, if you're like me, you don't give much thought to those huge towers we see dotting the horizon. While I knew that they stored water (duh), I wasn't quite sure just how the entire system worked.

Nor did I know what those massive towers looked like on the inside. (I'd always just assumed, I guess, that they were just huge tanks, filled with water-- kind of like a massive, elevated swimming pool.)

Well, as it turns out, there's way more involved than that. I found this video in my Facebook feed the other day and thought it was pretty interesting. While it involves a water tower in Bloomington and not here in Rochester, it's still pretty interesting. (And HERE is a report from RPU that details just how Rochester's water municipal water supply works).

Have you ever seen the inside of a water tower?  Check it out!
