Seeing as I don't have much of a green thumb, I'm not really sure if this plant is a beautiful, decorative species... or is just a weed. What do you think?

Is it a weed... or part of the landscaping?

I noticed this little beauty along 1st Avenue Southwest in downtown Rochester, in the parking lot between Premier Bank and the China Star Restaurant. The Quick Country 96.5 studios, in the Townsquare Communications Complex, are located nearby and I had seen this plant while out walking-- trying to get those 10,000 steps a day on my FitBit before I headed home.

My first thought was that the plant above is just a weed that had grown up among the other landscaping plants. A couple of things made me think this: First, it's the only plant of its kind. If it was part of the landscaping intentionally, there probably would have been more of the same.

Secondly, it looks like of like the weeds that grow along the side of our garage. I'm sure they have a scientific name, but I don't know what it is-- I just know them as weeds.

These plants are most likely part of the landscaping-- aren't they?

Or so I thought. As I kept walking south, on my way to Soldiers Field Park, I noticed all the lovely landscaping in the second photo. These plants, while there are more of them, kind of look like the first plant in question.

So, what do you think? Is the plant in the first picture part of the landscaping... or is it just a weed?
