First it was the snow, and now we're dealing with the cold here in Minnesota. But did you know it's colder here this week here than in these usually-cold places?

Yeah, it's going to continue to be cold this week. The gang at Weather-Eye says we'll only see highs in the single digits above zero today through Thursday, with overnight lows well below zero.

Seeing as our normal highs for December would be near 25 with overnight lows near 11, we're certainly experiencing a cold snap. Not that it's the 30-below Polar Vortex-type cold we experienced a few years ago, but it's still cold.

In fact, seeing as our cold weather is kind of a badge of honor, and being the weather nerd I am, I did a quick check online found that southeast Minnesota is colder this week than these four usually-cold places:

+ REYKJAVIK, ICELAND. Wouldn't you think the capital city of a place with ice in its title would be cold, right? Well, it's is kinda cold there-- but with highs expected in the mid 30's to lower 40's, we're still way colder here in Minnesota this week.

+ KIEV, UKRAINE. Now, when you say 'Ukraine,' you think cold, right? It's in Russia, for crying out loud. But no, they're looking at highs this week the 20's. Sure, it's cold compared to other parts of the globe, but we're still colder.

+ DUTCH HARBOR, ALASKA. If you've ever watched the show 'Deadliest Catch' on Discovery, you know this is the home base for many fishing fleets-- and it's right on the Bering Sea, which is usually pretty cold. Except this week, they'll be experiencing highs the the upper 30's and low 40's! We're way colder than that here!

BASE ESPERANZA, ANTARCTICA. This is the outpost located on the South Pole. The only thing that seems colder might be Santa's workshop at the North Pole, right? Wrong. Highs in that area of Antarctica this week are expected to be in the upper 20's to lower 30's-- making us way colder once again!
