When it comes to my latest food addiction, I'll admit I'm a little late to the party-- this one's only been around since 1912, mind you. What is it? The Nut Goodie, made just up the road from us in St. Paul.

Yes, the Nut Goodie was first candy bar made by the Pearson Candy Company, and hit store shelves 103 years ago. Back then, it cost all of a nickel. What makes it so great? Well, it's made with real milk chocolate, unsalted Virginia peanuts, and nougat-- specifically, maple nougat. According to Pearson's website, "Forget the pretenders—a Pearson’s Nut Goodie is covered in real milk chocolate, not some cost-cutting compound chocolaty coating creation. Customers crave quality confections. Come clean!"

But, of course, the chocolate isn't the only thing that makes the Nut Goodie so delicious. There's also the "delicious, creamy center."  Pearson's website says, "The creamy maple center makes the Nut Goodie very pleasant to eat, and most likely, what has kept it in production for over 100 years. Most surprisingly, it took that long to discover that a Sea Salt Caramel center would also be a pleasure!"

I've had both varieties, and let me tell you, they're addicting, alright. The only problem might be... finding them. I usually check the candy isle in the check-out each week when my wife and I are buying groceries, and often times, the box of Nut Goodies is empty. But if it's not, I have to buy one-- I can't stop eating them. And, it's nice to know they're a Minnesota original, too. So, thanks Pearson's, for keeping the Nut Goodie around for all these years!

Curious how Pearson's makes the Nut Goodie? Check out this vintage film tour of the Pearson's plant in the 1960's. While that may have been 50 years ago, the deliciousness of the Nut Goodie hasn't changed!
