A Minneapolis-based app that helps local businesses, non-profits and users all link up is expanding to Rochester.

The new app is called Divi Up, and according to this ABC-6 News story, until now, it was only available in the Twin Cities. But Divi Up's developers say they're looking to expand here in the Med City, too.

The story explained how the app works. "Consumers who download the app can choose a charity to whom they wish to donate.  Then, you look for deals at your favorite establishments.  You pay a small fee to unlock those deals, and a that fee is divvied up between charities chosen by the consumer, and the business," the story said.

The story goes on to say that expanding here in Rochester will take several parties who are committed to helping the greater good. "'It'll take the businesses wanting to be involved, and list a deal,' said Divi Up Chief Marketing Officer Pamela Pilsner. 'It will also take the charity organizations who are active in the community to be a part of it.  Then for consumers to download that app, and find those deals, and unlock deals to give back that way,'" the story explained.

It sounds like a really cool idea, and one that could be a win-win-win for your favorite local non-profit. It looks like it just needs some local establishments to get behind the concept, along with some local non-profits, too. I hope they do!
