It was good while it lasted, but it looks like this fall means it's the end of the road for the Pedal Pub here in the Med City.

According to a 507 Magazine story, the Rochester version of the popular PedalPub-Twin Cities says it will close operations at the end of its 2015 season. The business, which launched here in Rochester in April, 2013 featured a 16-person bike, which would slowly (depending on how fast you pedaled) make its way around downtown Rochester, stopping at restaurants, bars and breweries along the way during a 2-hour tour.

The story says, "'We have been pleased to have been a part of Rochester’s vibrant community culture for the past few years,' says Al Boyce, Managing Partner of PedalPub-Rochester and PedalPub-Twin Cities. 'We would like to thank everyone who supported us by scheduling a ride on PedalPub Rochester.'"

The story also said PedalPub-Rochester will continue to take reservations until November 15th, and that the closing here won't affect the PedalPub-Twin Cities, which will continue to operate 10 bikes.

While I've never been on the Rochester version, I've been on several PedalPub outings in both Minneapolis and St. Paul, and they were always a fun time. Sure, there was a little physical exertion involved -- you and your fellow pub-goers had to pedal, after all. And depending on what the weather was like, you maybe got a little sweaty. Or, a lot sweaty, if it was warm. Fortunately, there was usually a cold beverage for you on board, though. (You have to bring your own beer along, and you can only drink it while you're on board the PedalPub -- or in one of the stops along the way, of course.)

We were always thinking about booking one of the Rochester PedalPubs, but never got around to scheduling a date. Now, it looks like we'll have to head back up to the Twin Cities if we want to climb on board 'the Original Party Bike'.
