Remember that sinkhole that developed in southeast Rochester earlier this week? That one had nothin' on a huge sinkhole that's already closed a highway in Oregon-- and is still growing.

The sinkhole that developed Tuesday morning near the Seneca Foods warehouse in southeast Rochester was apparently caused by two recent water main breaks in the same area. It looked car-size at the time, but I never heard exactly how big it really was.

Contrast that with this massive sinkhole that's been growing under Highway 101 along the Oregon coast. According to NBC News, Oregon highway officials say, "'It's a monster.' Officials did not know how big it was, but said its depth exceeds 60 feet."

A sinkhole that's over 60-feet deep? That's pretty big! It apparently formed in part due to heavy rains that have pounded the Oregon coast recently, along with the geology of the land in that part of the country. Jared Castle, according to the NBC News story, is a spokesman with the Oregon Department of Transportation. "It's just part of the battle of having the Oregon Coast Highway located where it's at. It's a road built in a place where Mother Nature never intended for there to be a road," Castle said in the story.

And while the Rochester sinkhole was repaired on Tuesday, this sinkhole isn't expected to be completely filled in, and Highway-101 opened again, until March!  Take a look...
