We've all seen that one really nice house in our neighborhood or those really expensive lake homes up north in Minnesota. But just which cities themselves are the richest here in the Lane of 10,000 Lakes?

The gang at HomeSnacks.net took a look to find out. Using the latest US Census data, they ranked each Minnesota city with a population greater than 5,000 (146 total) according to only two factors: median household income, and median home prices. The site says they then "averaged each place’s ranking into one overall score, where the highest score went to the city with the most money in 2016."

So just what are the 10 richest cities in Minnesota? Check them out:

  • #1 Victoria
  • #2 Minnetrista
  • #3 Chanhassen
  • #4 Shorewood
  • #5 Corcoran
  • #6 Lake Elmo
  • #7 Lino Lakes
  • #8 Rogers
  • #9 Mendota Heights
  • #10 Mahtomedi

You can tell I don't live in one of the top 10 cities-- I even had to look up where Minnetrista is located! (Turns out, it's a Twin Cities suburb, just west of Minnetonka and a little south of Orono.) As for our neck of the woods, Rochester was ranked at #68, coming in between Roseville and Coon Rapids. Rounding out the top 100, Kasson was ranked at #76 and Owatonna was at #97.
