While down in Nashville recently, my wife and I tried to hit as many as those, genuine, local, off-the-beaten path-type places as we could. Which got me thinking about which places are like that here in southeast Minnesota.

You'd never know both Garth Brooks and Taylor Swift were discovered here (except for the crowd outside...)

While there's nothing wrong with chains, my wife and I try our hardest to avoid them and instead patronize those local, authentic off-the-beaten-path places when we travel. We were lucky enough to get tickets to the Blue Bird Cafe, a tiny club in a nondescript strip mall-- that still launched both Garth Brooks' and Taylor Swift's careers.

We also grabbed some of Nashville's famous hot chicken at Hattie B's, another somewhat nondescript (except for the huge crowd of people waiting to get in!), local, authentic restaurant.

But what would some of those places be here in southeast Minnesota? I asked that question on the air, and here are some places Quick Country listeners suggested:

+ Bucknuckles Bar in Alma, Wisconsin

+ Cheap Charlies in downtown Rochester

+ Julie's Village Inn in Harmony

+ B & B Cafe in Albert Lea

+ King's Bar in Miesville (which I've actually eaten at-- and the burgers are incredible!)

Do you have a favorite off-the-beaten-path place that we didn't think of?  Let us know in the comments!
