Another Moratorium on Olmsted County Property Taxes
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Olmsted County property owners who have been affected by the pandemic have been given another break.
But another proposal to help just commercial property owners has been rejected.
The Olmsted County Board Thursday approved a proposal to extend a moratorium on property tax payments through the end of the year. The board earlier this year approved two other moratoriums with the most recent set to expire Dec.15th.
The moratoriums relieved property owners of penalties and interest for late payments.
The board was told more than 3,000 owners have not paid yet this year, mostly residential properties:
- 372 commercial
- 2490 residential
- 421 agricultural
- 119 apartments
The board was told numerous commercial property owners are apparently struggling to pay their bills because of the pandemic-related shutdowns and other factors.
That brought a proposal from administration to give another break to just commercial property owners, allowing them to repay their 2020 taxes over a 6 to 18-month period if they met certain conditions.
That proposal was rejected by the board.
