When you ask kiddos what they want to be when they grow up, you probably get a range of answers. I never truly knew what I wanted to do with my life until I was a senior in high school, but even then, I had two options. The South East Minnesota chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) wants to expose students to different career paths at a young age. The NAWIC is hosting a Block Kids event tonight (Tuesday, November 19th)  for 5th-graders at Bear Cave Intermediate School in Stewartville to expose them to what the construction industry has to offer.

The Southeast Minnesota Chapter of NAWIC has been around since 1993 and has helped many women find careers in the construction industry. The press release says their mission is to

Support and encourage the growth of the number of women in the construction industry through scholarship and educational opportunities.

This event is put on by volunteers that work in the general and specific contracting industry in Rochester. The goal is to expose young students to the construction world while letting their imaginations grow. At the event, students will build structures using poster board, legos string, and tin foil. They will get help from volunteers to learn how this relates to real life.

The event is taking place at Bear Cave Intermediate School from 5:45 pm to 8:00 pm tonight and is open to the 5th-grade students there. Not only is it a night of fun, but it is also a great learning opportunity that can continue curiosity with these students.
