Seeing that I'm from Wisconsin, it's not much of a surprise that I'm a big beer guy. But I have to say, some of my favorite beers are brewed right here in Minnesota. And now, one of my favorites has announced it's producing a new beer this spring!

While I've never met a beer I didn't like, some of my Minnesota favorites are located right here in Rochester, like Kinney Creek, LTS, Forager and Grand Rounds. I'm also pretty fond of Minneapolis-based Surly Brewing Company (I like Furious and Todd the Axe Man), as well as St. Paul-based Summit Brewing Company (their EPA and Saga are great). And, who could forget, the classic Minnesota Grain Belt, now brewed by the August Schell Brewing Company. I've always like Grain Belt Premium, and more recently, Grain Belt Nordeast, named after the northeast neighborhood in Minneapolis.

And, according to a post on the Schell's Brewery Twitter page, the classic Grain Belt brand is coming out with new beer called Grain Belt Lock and Dam Lager. The new variety is being brewed to commemorate the brewery's purchase of the iconic Grain Belt sign on Nicollet Island in Minneapolis.

"The new beer is named after the historic St. Anthony Falls lock and dam, which powered the original Grain Belt Brewery when it was located in Minneapolis," according to a story in BringMeTheNews, and it'll join the permanent Grain Belt line-up, which includes Premium and Nordeast.

Schell's said the Grain Belt new beer will be available across Minnesota beginning on April 4th. I'm looking forward to trying it. Cheers!
