Cougar Spotted Near Dodge Center
Dodge Center, MN (KROC-AM News) - A cougar has been spotted in Dodge County.
The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy was able to take a photo of a cougar in an area north of Dodge Center Saturday afternoon. A Facebook post by the Sheriff’s office indicates a local resident told the deputy the cougar had been spotted coming in and out of the tree line near the person’s property, which is located near the Dodge Center Sportsman’s Club. The property owner said the cougar appeared to know it was being watched but didn’t seem scared or interested in approaching.
A Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer also responded to document the sighting and estimated the cougar may be one to two years old. The DNR does not believe the animal is a public safety threat, but the Sheriff’s Office is advising people in the area to be careful and avoid leaving their pets and young children outside unattended.
Anyone spotting the cougar is being told not to approach it. Any sighting of the cougar should be reported to the Sheriff’s Office at 507-635-6200. A photo would be appreciated if it's safe to take one. The information and documentation will be forwarded to the DNR.
