Downtown Minnesota Building Has a Strange Mystery Room
It's a strange room in a large, recently-built, downtown building in Minnesota, but we now know what its purpose is.
The somewhat strange room is located in a new building in the city of Rochester, which happens to be the third-largest city in Minnesota (only Minneapolis and St. Paul are bigger) and is the largest city outside of the Twin Cities metro area.
And Rochester is in the middle of a LOT of construction projects these days, both public and private, much of it related to the Destination Medical Center initiative that is transforming parts of its downtown area near the world-famous Mayo Clinic campus.

So it was that earlier this year a new, 10-story parking ramp was completed in downtown Rochester. It's called the Discovery Square Ramp, so named because you'll find it directly across 3rd Avenue Southwest from the also-new One and Two Discovery Square buildings, which house various medical research and technology firms. It's a parking ramp that's specifically for employees of Mayo Clinic.
And the new Discovery Square Ramp also contains a strange, mystery room. At least it WAS a mystery room, as it appeared while the building was under construction earlier this year. Take a look at this picture below and see if you can tell what the purpose of this mystery room might be.
If you said it's actually a room for you to store your bike while you're on the Mayo campus in Rochester, you're right! Here's more about the new room, according to the Employees At Mayo Clinic Facebook page:
The Discovery Square Ramp is equipped with a secure bike room, with space for 100 bicycles and electrical outlets to charge e-bikes. The room also has lockers and a bike maintenance station. Security features include security cameras and restricted access.
The post went on to say that the Discovery Square Ramp bike room is locked 24 hours a day, with access only available to those with a Mayo Clinic employee ID. So, the mystery room really isn't a mystery anymore.
And, despite just being completed and open to Mayo Clinic employees, the new Discovery Square Ramp bike room has already been used by at least one employee, as evidenced by the loan bike locked up on one of the racks.
