Flying Out of the Twin Cities May Take Longer Than Other Airports

Get ready to spend more time waiting around if you're flying out the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport anytime soon.

That's because a new survey by the flight-data and travel analytics company, Cirium, has listed the World's Most On-Time airports-- and our own major Minnesota airport, MSP in Bloomington, did not make the list. In fact, no domestic airport here in the U. S. of A even cracked the top ten in this year's on-time list.

And, in case you're curious, Cirium defines 'on-time' like this: "A flight is on-time if the aircraft arrives at the gate less than 15 minutes of the scheduled arrival time," the survey said. So we're talking about a pretty tight timeline here.

Not only did our own MSP not make the on-time list this year, but the only American airports in the top 20 were also Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) at No. 19 and Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) at No. 20. I'm merely guessing here, but I always wonder if our sometimes unpredictable Minnesota winter weather and the delays it can cause on various flights is one of the reasons MSP didn't make this list.

So which airport tops the on-time list? Well, according to the Cirium survey, you have to fly out of Russia-- at Sheremetyevo Airport (SVO) in Moscow-- if you want to witness the world's most on-time airport. Over there, 95-percent of all flights are on-time, putting it first on the list this year. (Of course, over there, if you work for an airline where your flights are consistently late, you might find yourself spending a lot of time in Siberia... just kidding!)
