Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester woman has been sentenced to one year on probation after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor traffic offense stemming from a deadly car-pedestrian incident last year.

Olmsted County court records also show 39-year-old Nicole Alexander was fined $300 after she entered a guilty plea last week to a charge of Duty to Drive With Care-Speed Greater Than Reasonable. Two other citations for misdemeanor traffic violations connected to the death of 47-year-old Karlys Koens were dismissed.

The Stewartville woman was attempting to cross 2nd Street Southwest in an area just west of Highway 52 on the morning of November 2nd when she was struck by Alexander’s vehicle. Police reports indicated Koens was in a crosswalk and another motorist had stopped to allow her to cross when Alexander hit her. Alexander told investigators she was going about 35 miles-per-hour and slammed on the brakes once she saw Koens, but it was too late.
