It's been roughly 3 weeks since the hands-free law took effect in Minnesota. But how many citations were handed out in that first week here in Southeastern Minnesota? Not as many as you might think. A total of 84 citations were written in SE Minnesota in that first week with a majority of those written coming out of Dakota County.

According to an article from Fox 9 News, 71% of the citations written here in SE Minnesota came from Dakota County. Scott County, Rice County, and Olmsted were the next highest cited counties in our area. No hands-free citations were reported that first week of August (1-7) in Steele, Dodge, LeSueur, or Waseca Counties.

In total over 670 citations were written statewide over that one week period with 286 being written in Hennepin County. For more information on what is and isn't allowed now when it comes to the hands-free law head to HandsFreeMN.org.
