McGregor, MN (MinnesotaNow)- One person was airlifted and two others were taken to a hospital following a plane crash near a rural Minnesota airport.

The Aitkin County Sheriff’s Office says investigators have identified the suspect cause of the plane crash

First responders were called to the report of the aircraft crashing shortly before 4:30 Sunday afternoon.

Power Failure Blamed for Plane Crash That Injured 3 Near McGregor, MN  Airport

Emergency responders found the crash site about a half-mile southeast of the McGregor Airport, which is located about 60 miles west of Duluth. 

A preliminary investigation indicated the plane experienced a power failure shortly after taking off.

The pilot tried to return to the airport but the aircraft, described as a Piper PA-28 140, went down in a swampy area short of the runway, the news release says. 

The news release identified the occupants of the plane as 23-year-old Kaden Brazinsky of Ham Lake, 23-year-old Jocelyn Erlandson of Ham Lake and 22-year-old Wyatt Sherry of New Richmond, WI. 

Authorities did not say which occupant of the aircraft was flown to a hospital.

All three of the individuals are reported to be in stable condition and are receiving treatment for their injuries, the news release says.
