Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A man has been charged with holding a woman hostage at a Rochester motel for several hours.

Police say during the ordeal, the man also had sexual contact with the woman and robbed her.

Capt. Casey Moilanen says the 34-year-old woman was going to her room at a hotel near St Marys Hospital around 4:30 pm Friday when a man confronted her in a stairwell and said he had a gun. Moilanen says he went with the woman to her room and stayed there until 2:00 am Saturday. The woman was in Rochester for medical reasons.

The woman later said the man told her he had friends in the area who would kill her and her family if she called police.

She eventually reported the incident Sunday afternoon and officers were able to identify the man. He was located in the downtown around 6:00 pm Sunday and arrested.
