One passerby not only called 911 when they saw a house on fire, but they did everything they could to help extinguish it.

This happened in Duluth, Minnesota on Monday January 23rd, 2003. According to WDIO, the incident happened on the 2400 block of West Forth Street. It was stated that the man saw the fire, called 911, and then proceeded to do more. He went and knocked on the door to alert the residents.

The man didn't stop there. As they waited for the fire crew and first responders, he then began throwing snow at the house to stop the fire. What a quick-thinking move. He was able to successfully extinguish about 90 percent of the fire before the Duluth Fire Department was able to fight off the remaining hot spots.

Duluth Fire Department Assistant Chief Dan Lattner thanked the passerby for their safe and quick actions to call 911. He was also thankful that nobody was injured. Lattner went on to say:

Personal safety is paramount in cases like these, so we thank this citizen not only for their expedience in calling for emergency services and attempting to notify the building’s residents, but also for carefully minding their own personal safety in attempting to control the fire by shoveling snow on it.

As of right now, it looks like the estimated damage to the structure is between $10,000 and $20,000. Big shoutout to the man who decided to help rather than continue on his way!
