The Coldest Place in the U.S. Thursday? Yeah, It Was Here in Minnesota

Sure it's July. And sure, we often get some really hot, humid weather. But Minnesota just recorded the coldest temperature in the country Thursday!
Remember when Super Bowl LII (that's 52, if you don't speak Roman Numerals) was held here in Minnesota at US Bank Stadium back in 2018? Organizers coined the term 'Bold North' to help sell the rest of the country on all the positive aspects of coming to Minnesota in the middle of winter in early February.
I'm guessing they didn't necessarily think it would fit to describe Minnesota in July, but it sure did Thursday. That's because the coldest place in the United States on Thursday, July 8th, was right here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes-- which hopefully weren't frozen.
But they sure could have been. At least in Brimson, that is. Because according to the National Weather Service office in Duluth, Brimson-- that tiny unincorporated community in Ault Township-- recorded a low temperature of 30 degrees Thursday, making it the coldest spot in the U S of A. Well, there was ONE spot on Mount Denali in Alaska that hit 25 degrees, but the elevation there is 7200 feet, where it's always cold, so as the NWS noted, "that's kind of cheating."
In case you're curious, Brimson is located in St. Louis County, about 20 miles north of Two Harbors, along Minnesota's scenic North Shore of Lake Superior. It's about 4 hours and 20 minutes north of Rochester.
And that wasn't the only cool spot in Minnesota Thursday morning, either. While our low temperatures were in the upper 50s here, Duluth TV station KBJR reported that many fellow Minnesotans near Duluth had frost on their windows! In July! I've been known to complain about the excessively humid conditions we sometimes encounter during the summer, but I'm thinking having to scrape your windshield during the summer just isn't fair, am I right?
