Thanks to updates from the 2024 legislative session, Minnesota’s minimum wage is getting a much-needed boost - because, let’s be honest, the cost of living isn’t slowing down for anyone.

According to the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry, the revisions aim to help workers better provide for themselves and their families while ensuring fairness statewide.

In 2022, approximately 90,000 jobs in Minnesota, or 2.7% of salaried and hourly positions, paid at or below the minimum wage, according to the Minnesota DLI.

Minnesota Workers: A New Law Brings Bigger Paychecks in 2025!

Right now, large employers in the North Star State are required to pay a minimum wage of $10.85 an hour, while small employers can pay as little as $8.85. But come 2025, those differences disappear.

Whether you’re working for a mom-and-pop shop or a big-name company, if you’re earning minimum wage, you’re about to see a bump in your paycheck. This includes servers as well. Employers may not count tips received by an employee toward the payment of minimum wage.

So, what’s the number? As of January 1st, 2025, the minimum wage will rise to $11.13 an hour statewide. It’s a small but meaningful boost aimed at helping workers keep up with the times and their bills.
