MN Woman Gets 9 Years For Leaving Boy To Die In Freezing Garage

Minneapolis (KROC AM News) - A Brooklyn Park woman who was accused of causing her young son to freeze to death has been sentenced to nine years in prison.

39-year-old Tasha Tennin pleaded guilty in November to a 1st-degree manslaughter charge. As part of a plea deal, a 1st-degree murder charge was dismissed.

Her 8-year-old son died on February 1st, 2018.

Tennin called 911 to report her son was unresponsive. First responders determined he had no pulse and was not breathing and he was pronounced dead. They also noted his body was “ice cold,” “extremely cold,” and “very cold, as if he had been outside.”

Tennin told police her son had been ill.

Several months later her other children said she had locked the boy in the garage as punishment the day before he died and left him there “until the next morning.”

Tennin was then charged with manslaughter. She was later charged with “1st-degree murder while committing child abuse with a past pattern of child abuse.”

Tennin entered what’s known as a Norgaard plea, which means she has no memory of the incident.
