Olmsted Deputies Rescue Woman from House Fire
Douglas, MN (KROC AM News) - Two Olmsted County deputies came to the rescue of an elderly woman after a fire broke out in her home Wednesday.
Sheriff’s Office Capt Scott Behrns says 89-year-old Eleanor Nichols called 911 around 9:00 AM to report the fire in her kitchen.
Patrol deputies Jay Clemens and John Strum rushed to her home at 8518 Mechanic St NW, about 2 miles west of Douglas. They spotted Nichols with her walker still in the kitchen and used extinguishers to knock down the flames and helped her out of the home. Behrns says she was checked at the scene and did not need treatment. Pine Island firefighters were also called to the scene.
Behrns says a problem with the microwave apparently started the fire.
