This Stunning Iowa Town Was Just Named the Prettiest in America
When it comes to the prettiest places, everyone has an opinion. Maybe it’s mountain views or ocean sunsets. But around here? We’ve got plenty of small-town charm that can hold its own, even without a coastline or a mountain range in sight.
Two Midwest gems made a list of the prettiest small towns in all of America, and get this, the number one spot overall went to a town in Iowa! Minnesota didn’t land a mention (rude), but I’d argue that at least one of the following deserve a nod: Stillwater, Grand Marais, Lake City, or Lanesboro.

The travel blog Have Clothes, Will Travel just rounded up the 12 prettiest and we’re not talking overrated tourist traps. These are the kind of places that make you want to pull over, grab a coffee from a local café, and spend the afternoon wandering.
The blogger based the picks on her own travels and input from readers, so these towns didn’t just look pretty online, they earned their spots.
Before we get to the Iowa town that took the top spot, let’s talk about the other Midwest town that made the list: Galena, Illinois. A solid pick, and honestly, it never misses.
This delightful small town in the northwest region of Illinois is steeped in a fascinating past. In the 1800s, it flourished as a prosperous lead mining hub, but now it’s famed for its picturesque setting, captivating architecture, and one-of-a-kind stores. Tourists can explore the town’s highlights via a trolley ride, peruse the numerous art galleries and vintage shops, or partake in outdoor pursuits like hiking and skiing. - Have Clothes, Will Travel.

Now, sadly, I have yet to visit this town that's literally less than 4 hours away from home for me. Insert face palm. But from everything I’ve heard, it’s pure magic and totally worth the trip. Oh, and the tulips? Apparently next-level.
I'm talking about Pella, Iowa. Known for the Tulip Time Festival. According to the event page, the city of Pella plants tens of thousands of tulips throughout three parks in celebration of Pella’s Dutch heritage.
The town’s Dutch influence is evident in its well-preserved historic architecture. Visitors are captivated by the unique buildings, including the Vermeer Windmill and the Scholte House Museum. - Have Clothes, Will Travel.
Have you been? Do you agree it's the prettiest place in America?
