The Rochester City Council voted unanimously yesterday to  approve a contract for Alison Zelms as Rochester's new City Administrator. Starting January 21, 2021, and with a $190,000.00 annual salary, Zelms will oversee the adopted 2020 budget of $587 million and about 940 teammates.

The job became available when previous City Administrator, Steve Rymer, gave notice in June, for family reasons.

What's a City Administrator do on a day to day basis? They are responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction for City operations; carrying out the policies and ordinances of the City Council, coordinating with the Mayor, and directing the administrative functions and operations of various City departments.

Alison Zelms comes to Rochester from Mankato, where she's the Deputy City Manager. She's also been Deputy City Manager in Prescott, Arizona, the Assistant City Manager in Sedona, Arizona, and the Director of Administrative Hearings for the City of Evanston, Illinois.
