Roseanne Barr Thinks Her Rendition of the National Anthem was Better Than Fergie’s
Fergie has not been having the best 24 hours. The pop star was asked to sing the National Anthem during the 2018 edition of the NBA All-Star Game on Sunday (February 18) and decided to change up the arrangement of "The Star Spangled Banner," opting for a jazz-inspired rendition. The internet did not approve.
One such hater was Roseanne Barr. The Roseanne star took to Twitter to roast the "M.I.L.F.$" singer. "Who saw Fergie's national anthem performance at the NBA All Star Game?" she tweeted on Monday (February 19). "I think mine was better lowkey."
For those who don't get the joke, Barr performed an exceptionally atrocious version of the National Anthem in July of 1990 before a San Diego Padres game. The screeching, off-key rendition was so bad that then president George H.W. Bush dubbed it "disgraceful."
Fergie gave an official statement to TMZ after the overwhelming backlash she received. "I've always been honored and proud to perform the national anthem and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA," the statement began. "I'm a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn't strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best."
