Blaine, MN (KROC-AM News) - Authorities in the northern Twin Cities area are reporting a wild chase that followed a report of shots being fired from a car at several motorcyclists this afternoon.

The Anoka County Sheriff's Office says the shooting was reported around 1:50 PM in the City of Ham Lake. A news release says the shots were fired from a BMW driven by a man with a woman in the passenger seat. The gunfire was directed at three motorcyclists, who were not injured during the incident. After the shots were fired, witnesses reported the driver of the car sped away.

A short time later, deputies, along with officers from Blaine and Coon Rapids spotted the BMW and attempted to stop it, but the driver fled and traveled in the opposite direction of traffic on two major highways, including Highway 10, before the car crashed into an Anoka County squad car and then a tree in Blaine.

The driver and his passenger were arrested and the woman was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for minor injuries. The news release says the deputy in the squad car that collided with the fleeing vehicle was not hurt.
