There’s Nobody Better Than These Rochester/Olmsted County Police K9s
It kind of answers the question dog owners always ask their dogs: Who's a good boy?
Congratulations to some of the cutest most handsome members of the Rochester Police Department and Olmsted County Sheriff's office: The hardworking K-9 officers, who just notched some impressive performances at a recent police dogs competition!
The Rochester Police K-9 Unit recently hosted the United States Police Canine Association, Inc. Region 18 field trials at Century High School last weekend, where police dogs from all over Minnesota and Wisconsin took part. There were over 50 K-9 teams at the event, who used the competition to complete their certification. Each K-9 team participated in five different events including evidence search, obedience, agility, suspect search, and criminal apprehension.

The Olmsted-Rochester Law Enforcement K-9 Foundation posted some other impressive news concerning the four-legged members of the Rochester Police Department, noting that RPD K-9 Officer Kola and his handler, Officer Erik Red Hill, notched a perfect score in the criminal apprehension competition, finishing with a perfect score! And RPD Officer Winters and K-9 Mack took second place in the agility, competition, as well.
Meanwhile, members of the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office K-9 unit also racked up some impressive finishes during the same competition: Deputy Schmidt and K9 Axel took first place in article search with a perfect score on suspect search (though they didn’t have the fastest time.) Deputy Waletzki and K9 Cobra took 1st place in agility.
Teams completing their certification included: Deputy Rian Jones and K9 Jango, Deputy Adam Waletzki and K9 Cobra, Deputy Kevin Schmidt and K9 Axel, and Deputy Nick Heimer and K9 Ranger.
Here's a shout-out to ALL of the members of the K-9 units in both the Rochester Police Department and Olmsted County Sheriff's Office for the many hours and long days they put in training with their K-9 partners. Thank you for your service and your tireless efforts in working to keep our community safe!
