‘The Voice': Who’s a Better Mentor, Keith Urban or Thomas Rhett?
On Monday night (Oct. 15) the coaches of The Voice rounded out and completed their respective teams, paving the way to the Battle Rounds. As seasoned viewers of the show know, this is where a lot of the fun comes in--each coach enlists a mentor to help groom the team to perfection.
In this season, country music mentors were front and center, with coach Blake Shelton recruiting Keith Urban, and Kelly Clarkson tapping Thomas Rhett. (Coach Jennifer Hudson stuck to pop with her choice, Halsey; while Adam Levine decided to bring back former Voice coach CeeLo Green.) While obviously both veteran Urban and new hotshot Rhett have their respective strengths, it's probably a bit too early in the season to determine who is a stronger mentor.
"Thomas Rhett isn't just a country music artist," Clarkson notes. "The cool thing about his music is, it's got influences of everything. I just wanted to make sure I had someone who could embrace something that might be different from their own. And I wanted to blow my team away from having someone awesome!"
Meanwhile, Shelton took the time to throw a few jabs at some of his former fellow collaborators: "I like working with Keith because Keith is smart," he observed. "And I know that because I've also worked with Luke Bryan. And Trace Adkins is a little..." he pauses. "And so having Keith here is nice. It's refreshing."
It's hard to make a choice as to which mentor will be more valuable in terms of grooming country talent; although, it's hard to deny either one will be great shakes at the mentoring gig altogether. What do you think?
