Winter is an extremely long Minnesota season, or at least it feels that way. Oftentimes, families start to feel a bit trapped during late January and throughout February because, for the most part, no one wants to leave the comfort of their warm home.

Well, I'm here to tell you these eight state parks are incredibly worthwhile destinations during winter, even if it does mean you have to leave your cozy house.

The sights are like no other during this chilly, snow-filled season.

1. Nerstrand Big Woods State Park in Nerstrand

The frozen waterfall surrounded by beautiful white snow is a sight you likely won't forget.

2. Frontenac State Park in Frontenac

This panoramic view is like no other, and the trails are usually rather peaceful in the winter months.

3. Banning State Park in Sandstone

This park is fantastic year-round, but the night sky is especially note-worthy in Minnesota's off-season.

4. Jay Cooke State Park in Carlton

This is one of my favorite Minnesota state parks. The views are unforgettable.

5. Minneopa State Park in Mankato

Minneopa is definitely a fan favorite, and I'm sure you can see why. The frozen waterfall will simply knock your socks off.

6. Tettegouche State Park in Silver Bay

Yes, it is rather cold in Northern Minnesota, but the views of Lake Superior are worth the chilly trip.

7. Interstate State Park in Taylors Fall

This scene is magical. It's a true winter wonderland.

8. Cascade River State Park in Lutsen

Last, but certainly not least, is Cascade River State Park, another staple along the North Shore with stunning views.

Most Visited State Parks In Minnesota: Is Your Favorite in the List?

Minnesota has 75 beautiful state parks. The parks have an average of 9,700,000 visitors each year. Interestingly enough, nearly 19% of park visitors come from other states and countries, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Now, my favorite State Park is Jay Cooke in Carlton, MN, but it did not break into the top 5.
