Curt St. John

Hey, it's Curt St. John here, and I'm excited to join the Quick Country 96.5 staff! Growing up, being on the radio is all I ever dreamed of doing. And, after a stint that required me to wear a bear suit to be the mascot for an AM station that aired Chicago Cubs games in my hometown of Wausau, Wisconsin, I finally DID end up on the radio, working weekends and overnights while I earned a BA from UW-Eau Claire. I next worked several radio jobs in Eau Claire, including hosting a morning show for about 15 years. (That's a lot of getting up at 3:20 am!) After I met my beautiful wife, we got married (in Jamaica) and moved here to Rochester, where my wife was already working, in April of 2012. In my spare time, I like to get out on the mountain bike, catch ‘House Hunters’ on TV and work on our next batch of home-brewed beer. And, now that I'm here in Minnesota, I'm an avid Twins and Wild fan-- although I do confess to still rooting for certain MLB, NFL, and Big 10 teams that hail from a state just east of here. I'm excited to keep you company in the afternoon and play the most continuous country on your way home!

9 Celebrity Facts That Sound Like Lies…But Are Actually True

When it comes to pop culture these days, there's not a lot of things we don't know about what our crop of celebrities are up to.  Thanks to the paparazzi, cameras on our cellphones and social media, just about everybody's life seems to be an open book. But I have to say, I hadn't heard about any of these celebrity facts. How many of these have you heard of?

That’s A Wrap: Garden Produce Over For 2014

How does that say go, "All good things must end"?  That's pretty much the case for the produce from our garden this year, when I picked the last two offerings from the zucchini plant the other day. Outside of a few tomatoes the critters have already attacked, there's not much left to this year's harvest. How did your garden do this year?

So That’s What News Anchors Do During Commercial Breaks

News anchors always look so professional on-camera, behind the desk, don't they? Their makeup, hair and clothes are always just right, and their faces and demeanor are usually business-like and serious.  But what happens during commercials breaks? Well, now we know-- at least at WGN-TV in Chicago, anyway. Check out the 2-minute routine Robert Jordan and Jackie Bange have worked up to pass the time during a commercial break...

Gardy May Be Gone, But His Gift Of Nicknames Lives On Here In Minnesota

In the wake of the news that the Twins are "replacing" Ron Gardenhire as their manager next season (they didn't say they "fired" him, mind you),  one of the things Gardy leaves behind here in Minnesota is his penchant for bestowing nicknames on his players. And, as a lasting Gardy legacy, now you can find our YOUR Gardy-ized nickname!

Fall Color Ride… Without The Fall Colors

How about that weather we had this past weekend here in southeastern Minnesota?! It was absolutely gorgeous, and seeing as the long-range forecast for next weekend wasn't supposed to be quite as good, my wife and I hopped in the car to check out the fall colors here in our neck of the woods Sunday afternoon.  The only problem was, we were a little early: outside of a lone red or orange tree here and there, most of the foliage we encountered was still pretty much green, with just a hint of yellow.

Vikings Win; Chance 1-0 In Weekly Pigskin Picks!

Did you catch any of the Vikings 41-28 victory over the Falcons yesterday? That was quite the debut for Teddy Bridgewater, as well as for a team that had no less than 5 different opening-day starters NOT playing! I don't want to jinx things, but our dog Chance, in his inaugural Weekly Pigskin Picks (which we shot last Thursday morning), correctly predicted the Vikings would hand it to the Falcons! That makes him 1-for-1 on the season so far. Check it out:

For Brewers Fans Like Me, There’s Always Next Year…

It ended mercifully yesterday when they lost-- again--  to the Cincinnati Reds. My home-state team, the Milwaukee Brewers, were knocked out of MLB playoff contention for the third year in a row. And while Wisconsin baseball fans like me are used to not making the playoffs, this year seemed like it might turn out a little differently, considering the Crew was in first place in the NL Central from April 5th through August 31-- that's 150 days-- before collapsing down the stretch to finish out of the playoffs in third behind Pittsburgh and St. Louis.

My Favorite One-Hit Wonder: CW McCall’s ‘Convoy’

Seeing as today is National 'One Hit Wonder' Day, I thought I'd post the video for my favorite One Hit Wonder: CW McCall's 1976 country hit, Convoy!  I remember my dad having the 45 (that's what we called the small, vinyl records with the big hole in them that contained only one song per side) of this song when I was a little kid; I didn't know there was a video to along with it until now.

Exercise Ball Fails!

I've been back from vacation now for four days, after having spent a week on the Outer Banks down in North Carolina. It was a great vacation; my wife and I watched our niece get married on the beach, we did some sightseeing, some relaxing and some swimming in the ocean. I also did a lot of eating!  So, after a lazy vacation like that, it's time for me to get back to the gym.  I'm just not going to be using an exercise ball in any of these ways anytime soon...
