Curt St. John

Hey, it's Curt St. John here, and I'm excited to join the Quick Country 96.5 staff! Growing up, being on the radio is all I ever dreamed of doing. And, after a stint that required me to wear a bear suit to be the mascot for an AM station that aired Chicago Cubs games in my hometown of Wausau, Wisconsin, I finally DID end up on the radio, working weekends and overnights while I earned a BA from UW-Eau Claire. I next worked several radio jobs in Eau Claire, including hosting a morning show for about 15 years. (That's a lot of getting up at 3:20 am!) After I met my beautiful wife, we got married (in Jamaica) and moved here to Rochester, where my wife was already working, in April of 2012. In my spare time, I like to get out on the mountain bike, catch ‘House Hunters’ on TV and work on our next batch of home-brewed beer. And, now that I'm here in Minnesota, I'm an avid Twins and Wild fan-- although I do confess to still rooting for certain MLB, NFL, and Big 10 teams that hail from a state just east of here. I'm excited to keep you company in the afternoon and play the most continuous country on your way home!

Cute Alert: Little Boy And His Best Friend Penguin

One of my favorite cartoon strips of all time is Calvin and Hobbes, by Bill Watterson. It's the story of Calvin, a mischievous 6-year-old boy and his stuffed tiger, Hobbes. The cartoon is great, though, because it's in Calvin's mind that Hobbes, the tiger, comes to life. I won't divulge any more and ruin this video for you, but suffice it to say that if you liked Calvin and Hobbes, you'll love this, too. (And almost forget that it's a commercial for a British department store!)

Cartoon ‘Graffiti’ Left On Minnesota Company’s Headquarters

Usually, when you hear about graffiti, it's not a good thing. It's usually the case where someone has defaced a school, park or some other public property that will now need to be cleaned up. But not in this case. This time, the Minnesota company whose building was the victim of graffiti was actually left laughing!

Why Were The Doobie Brothers At The CMA Awards?

A question I saw numerous times on social media last night was, "Why are the Doobie Brothers -- an iconic 70's and 80's rock group -- on the CMA Awards?" Well, outside of the fact that many of their songs, like "Black Water", "Long Train Runnin "', and "Rockin' Down the Highway", have been covered by a TON of different country acts in concert, I'm guessing it's also because a new Doobie Brothers album featuring duets with today's hottest country stars was released on Tuesday.

CMA Flashback: Charlie Rich Sets ‘Entertainer Of The Year’ Card On Fire

My wife and I like to watch the various awards shows, including tonight's CMA Awards, especially to see which star will do something outrageous that everyone will be talking or tweeting about or posting to Facebook. Turns out, stars doing memorable things at the CMA Awards isn't a new phenomenon, however.

Oops: Guy Drinks $3,750 Bottle Of Wine– Thinking It Was Only $37.50

Now that it's getting colder, my wife and I like to open a good bottle of red wine every now and again. We've been out to Napa and the Central Coast of California a couple of times and have done wine tastings at several vineyards. I certainly wouldn't say we know a lot about wine, but at least we know not to order a bottle of wine worth almost $4,000. Which puts us one step ahead of THIS guy, apparently!

How Well Does Nicole Kidman Know Country Music?

When I worked at a country station back in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, we used to do a version of this contest (which Ellen calls "Country Song or Country Wrong") with listeners who stopped by our booth at Country Jam, USA. We called it, "Country Song... Or It Ain't" back then, and of course, most of our contestants had visited the Budweiser tent earlier, so the results might have been a little skewed. But just HOW much does Nicole Kidman know about her husband's line of work?

DIY: New Dining Room Chandelier

Do it yourself projects (or DIY, as the kids say these days) are all the rage-- and can save you some serious dough. If you know what you're doing, that is.  I'm the first to admit that I have few skills in the home improvement arena, however, when we decided to replace our generic ceiling fan/light that was in our dining room, installing a new dining room chandelier was one project I was confident I could do.
